POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Marist Director of Athletics Tim Murray announced the hiring of Laura Campbell as head women's lacrosse coach on Monday. Campbell, a four-year starter and two-year captain in her playing days at American, comes to Marist with a successful track record as a high school and club coach.

"I'm pleased to have Laura join our coaching staff," Murray said. "I'm confident that she will continue to develop our young women's lacrosse program."

Campbell compiled a record of 42-18 (.700) in her four years as a high school coach. She was the head girls' lacrosse coach at Centreville High School in Centreville, Va., from 2004-05, and then served as head girls' lacrosse coach at Avon High School in Avon, Conn., from 2006-07.

For the past four years, Campbell has been the owner, director and head coach of the Northern Stars Lacrosse club team in Connecticut. She has been responsible for directing all aspects of the club's operation, including finances, marketing and Web site management. She also organized the club's practice schedule and tournament participation.

Campbell played collegiately at American from 1999-2003. In her senior year, American set a program record for victories and advanced to its first NCAA Tournament. The Eagles improved their record every season in Campbell's time as a player, and set a team record for goals in a season in 2003.

Campbell graduated from American in 2003 with a Double Major in Public Communication and Law & Society. Following her graduation, she served as a volunteer assistant at her alma mater.

"I am very excited about this opportunity," Campbell said. "We have a great group of returning players in addition to a strong incoming class. I'm looking forward to a successful 2009 season and beyond for the Marist women's lacrosse team."

In the 2008 season, Marist won its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championship in program history. The Red Foxes were also honored as an Academic Squad by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA), and six Red Foxes were named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll.
