Carter Named ECC Rookie of The Year, Leads Seven on All-Conference Team

Garden City, N.Y. - Freshman midfielder Kaitlyn Carter of Adelphi University has been named the East Coast Conference (ECC) Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Year, headlining the 2008 ECC All Conference Awards as voted by the conference coaches. C.W. Post's Mallory Poole was named ECC Player of The Year, while New Haven's Jen Fallon earned Coach of The Year honors. Carter has put together a freshman campaign that has included 46 goals and 13 assists for 59 points in 16 games, including three game winners, 2.0 ground balls and 2.6 draw controls per outing. She finished sixth in goals per game and ninth in points per game and is the third straight Panther to earn Rookie of The Year honors. The ECC All Conference First Team included Carter, Michelle Ceraso, Rachel Ray, and Caitlin Hilbert of Adelphi. Ceraso is fourth in the ECC in goals per game, while Ray leads the nation and the ECC in assist per game and Hilbert is third in the conference in caused turnovers per game. Poole, Jackie Napoli, Katie Hogan, Kimberly Williams and Lauren Scipione of C.W. Post also appeared on the first team along with, Kelly Cefalu and Kristin Matos of Dowling College, Kelly LaClair of Molloy College and Brigid Brady of New Haven. The Second Team included Adelphi's Jen Fucich, Jackie Bogensberger and Caitlin Fitzpatrick. Fucich has started every game for Adelphi and collected 16 ground balls, while Bogensberger has picked up 27 ground balls and caused 12 turnovers. Fitzpatrick is second in the conference in both goals against average and save percentage. Jenna Miller, Staci Passafiume, Elaine Williams and Kaurey Foley of C.W. Post earned second-team honors along with Rebecca LaFlare and Kristina Wargo of Molloy; Mallory Ferrandiz, Ashley Ferrandiz and Ashley Griffin of New Haven; and Shannon Shippey of Philadelphia University. Adelphi returns to action on Thursday, May 15 when they take on C.W. Post in the NCAA National Semifinals in Houston, Texas. | |||||
