DENVER -- David Hild (Kingswood Oxford (CT)/Middlebury) had five goals as the East team captured the US Lacrosse National Senior Showcase championship with a 15-10 victory over the South. The event was held at Dick's Sporting Goods Park and featured four regional teams.
Kyle Wharton (Haverford School (PA)/Johns Hopkins) added three goals for the East while Clayton Albright (Tatnall (DE)/Bucknell) and Jack McBride (Delbarton (NJ)/Princeton) each added a pair.
The South got two goals each from Patrick Foy (Timber Creek (FL)/Tallahassee CC), Anthony Mendes (East Chapel Hill (NC)/Maryland) and Thomas Murray (St. Stephen's & St. Agnes (VA)/Williams).
In the consolation game, the North rolled past the West 15-7 behind three goals from Rob Owen (Noble & Greenough (MA)/Princeton). Blair Bennett (Oak Park (CA)/Chapman) led the West with two goals in that game.
In the opening round, the East doubled up the West 12-6 as Jack McBride scored four goals. Mendes was the star of the other semifinal game, scoring five goals to lead the South to a tight 11-10 victory over the North.
The East has won the NSS the last two years, having defeated the North 13-7 last year. This is the first time in the four-year history of the event that the North did not reach the final.
