Three defending NCAA champions and a steadfast battle of two top-tier Division I men's lacrosse programs in neutral territory headline this week's edition of "Slide Package," a multimedia series presented by Lacrosse Magazine Online.
Michael Gvozden proved more than capable of continuing the Johns Hopkins legacy between the pipes, streaky Kevin Huntley started the 2008 season in impressive fashion, and the defending Division I men's lacrosse champion Blue Jays stifled Albany with a 10-5 victory at Homewood Field.
It was a much closer affair at Salisbury, where the defending Division III men's lacrosse champion Sea Gulls have not lost since April 2003. Consequently, the same team that pulled the trick then nearly did so again. But Lynchburg missed three chances to tie it in the final minute, as Salisbury held on for a 10-9 victory.
Defending Division I women's lacrosse champion Northwestern did not encounter nearly as much resistance in Piscataway, N.J., where the Wildcats ran wild on Rutgers, 21-4.
Highlights of those three games, and a little more Max Seibald magic in Cornell's big neutral-site win over Navy, follow in the third installment of LMO's "Slide Package" series. Check back each Tuesday for a new edition.

Also in the mix: Hofstra-UMBC women, Notre Dame-Loyola men and "Faceoff for a Cause."
Fire in the Hole - Feb. 12
